How to use it

What is kept and what is removed
Text, timings, line breaks and italic, bold and underline are kept. Fonts, colors, outlines, positions, fades and karaoke effects are removed, because a WebVTT file cannot store them the same way. Comment lines and vector drawings are skipped.
Characters with a special meaning in WebVTT, such as & and <, are written as & and < so that browsers show them as text.
Signs and songs
Lines from every style, such as signs and song lyrics, become ordinary captions at the bottom of the video. Check the preview and remove the ones you do not need, or let the subtitle cleaner shorten overlapping captions.

Does it work with SSA files?
Yes. SSA, the older SubStation Alpha format, converts the same way.
Why do my captions look plain in the browser?
Web pages style WebVTT captions with CSS rather than inside the caption file, so ASS fonts and colors are not carried over.
Can I convert VTT to ASS?
