Subtitle splitter

Cut one subtitle file into two. Split at a time or before a caption number, and optionally move part 2 back to 0:00 so it fits the second file of a video that was cut in two.

Your file is read by this page in your browser. It is not uploaded anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Open your subtitle file

Choose or drop one subtitle file, or paste its text. It stays on your device.

  2. Choose the split point

Enter a time or a caption number. Captions that start before the split go into part 1.

  3. Download both parts

Switch the preview between the parts, then download part 1 and part 2.

At a time or at a caption number

Split at a time when you know where the video was cut, for example from the length of the first video file. Every caption that starts before that time goes into part 1, and every caption from that time on goes into part 2. A caption that starts just before the split stays whole in part 1.

Split at a caption number when you want an exact cut between two lines, for example to share a scene. Part 2 starts with the caption you enter.

Starting part 2 at 0:00

When a video is split into two files, the second file starts at 0:00, so its subtitles have to start there too. Keep Start part 2 at 0:00 ticked and part 2 is moved back by the split time, or by the start of its first caption when you split at a number.

Untick it when both parts will be used with the same, full-length video.

What the parts keep

Both parts are written in the format of the original file, and captions are numbered from 1 in each part. Text, line breaks and italic, bold or underline stay as they were. ASS and SSA files are saved as ASS with one default style.

Questions and answers

How do I split an SRT file into two?

Open the file, enter the time or the caption number where part 2 should begin, and download both parts.

Are the captions renumbered?

Yes. Formats with numbers, such as SRT, count from 1 again in each part.

Can I join the parts again later?

Yes. Use the subtitle merger with One after the other, and enter the split time as the start of the second file.

Does splitting change my original file?

No. The original stays as it was. Both parts are new files, made and saved in your browser without any upload.
